Challenge
With nearly 25 million people in South Africa being in debt, and 40% of them being behind with their repayments,
MMI took for mission to help improve the financial wellness of all South Africans by offering them a service that will encourage and support a better money management.
Me and my team spent three month in South Africa for this project, in order to be close to the end users and collaborate better with our client.
MY ROLE
I was in charge of user research, helping client and team define what financial wellness means for our users and unveiling the needs and opportunities, UX and interaction design creating the overall experience, the wireframes, user flows and information architecture.

Pictures from the research field
For the research, we did one on one interviews of potential users as well as main stakeholders. We also ran a Dscout research and a focus group.
We used different stimulus during the interviews such as cart sorting in order to obtain as many insights as possible.
The research allowed us to define a serie of archetypes for whom we then designed.

Co-creation workshop
We ran multiple co-creation workshops with the client using design thinking methodologies in order to trigger creativity.
We then took the most interesting ideas and ran an internal co-creation session, resulting into an app concept using rewarding systems to motivate users getting healthier habits around money management.

The final product is a coaching and money management tool helping people saving money toward goals they set within the app.
Additionally, users are able to connect their bank accounts to track their spending, savings and debts.
The platform offers personal coaching and educational content about money management.
